Hello, SULC 2Ls.

Our second year is in full effect.

There is a particular honor, and something very special, about being trusted to lead a vision you had already believed was worth carrying before you ever sat in the seat of its presidency.

Before being appointed as 2L Class President, I served as 2L Chief of Staff, campaigning and leading alongside President Jermony Leech. I believed in the vision he laid before our class, and together, we listened to your concerns and built pillars around the solutions we believed would move this class forward.

Although the face of the presidency is new, the promise has not wavered.

We are still bringing community back. We are still creating spaces to Talk About It. We remain committed to advocating for your concerns, celebrating your accomplishments, communicating with clarity, and making sure that when something concerns you, you are heard and it's handled.

As second-year law students, we operate with a greater level of resolve and purpose. Now is the time to take ownership of your education, your preparation, and the direction in which you are headed. Be fully present. Be intentional. Make the most of this year and all that it places before you.

We are an unprecedented class, and you have an unprecedented leadership team. I am grateful to work alongside Deputy Chief of Staff and 2L Representative Toshiba Robinson, 2L Representative Annika Robinson, and Director of Student Voices Jordan Williams. They are my most trusted partners in this work. Together, we are calculated, tactical, and intentional about how we lead.

So, one thing you should remain sure of:
What we promised you will be fulfilled.
What we started will be carried out.
And the standard we established will not be compromised.
As we move forward, have a reclining confidence that what we said we would do, we intend to see through.

This is our second year.

Our time is, in fact, now.

Annika
Robinson

Dear 2L Class, I am honored and excited to serve as one of your 2L Representatives this year. As we enter the next chapter of our law school journey, my goal is to help create a class experience that is supportive, engaging, and rooted in community.

As 2Ls, we are stepping into a different kind of challenge. Many people say that 2L year, especially the fall semester, can feel even more demanding because the workload extends beyond the classroom. We are balancing classes, internships, externships, leadership roles, organizations, personal responsibilities, and preparation for our future careers.

As a first-generation law student and someone who values community, service, and student connection, I understand how important it is for our class to feel supported as we navigate this year together. As your representative, I hope to be a voice for our class, strengthen communication, and help support programming that keeps us connected both professionally and personally.

My hope is that we continue building a 2L year that reflects leadership, unity, and purpose. Thank you for the opportunity to serve and represent our class.

Desrael M.
Dumas

Desrael M. Dumas is a second-year law student at Southern University Law Center and serves as the 2L Class Special Assistant for Academic Programming. She also serves as a Research Assistant and remains actively involved in the SULC community through student leadership and service.

Before and throughout law school, Desrael has gained extensive experience within the legal profession through her work with the Orleans Parish Civil District Court, where she has served as a Court Crier and worked closely with judges, attorneys, court personnel, and litigants. She has also expanded her legal experience through judicial and legal externships, including work involving legal research, writing, and court administration.

Desrael earned her Master of Business Administration before pursuing her Juris Doctor, bringing a combination of business, legal, and leadership experience to her work at SULC.

As Special Assistant for Academic Programming, Desrael is excited to work alongside the 2L Class Cabinet to develop meaningful academic initiatives, strengthen student engagement, and help ensure that her classmates have the resources and support needed to succeed. She looks forward to serving the Class of 2028 and making their 2L year both productive and memorable.

Belony

I am Caleb Belony, a second-year law student at Southern University Law Center, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since beginning my legal education, I have remained committed to leadership, service, and professional growth. My experiences in law school and the legal profession have reinforced the importance of advocacy, collaboration, and creating opportunities that empower others to succeed.

With a strong commitment to student advocacy, professional development, and service, I strive to foster meaningful connections among students, faculty, alumni, and members of the legal community. Passionate about mentorship, networking, and student success, I am dedicated to working alongside fellow student leaders to ensure that every student has access to the resources, guidance, and opportunities necessary to excel both inside and outside the classroom.

As a member of the SBA Leadership Team, I look forward to serving the student body, strengthening collaboration across our law school community, and helping create meaningful experiences that prepare students for successful and impactful legal careers.
